My Story

High School: In high school I had a very traditional upbringing. I was raised in the small town of Douglas, WY. I played about every sport offered. I dabbled in soccer, gymnastics, hockey, basketball, volleyball, track, and softball. I was also very involved in extracurricular activities, being involved in student council, National Honor Society, and volunteer groups. My high school years where full of activities and left little time to find myself as a person and develop a unique personality. As I transitioned into college this posed to be one of my biggest challenges.

Undergraduate: Originally, I decided to attend Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD for college pursuing a degree in elementary education. After a year I decided I was not passionate about the future in this degree and switched to pursuing a degree in business administration with an emphasis in management. Right off the bat, I was shell shocked at the difference in life between high school and college. In high school, I knew everyone in my home town and never had a free moment. In college, the slower paced atmosphere and constantly being surrounded by new people was very shocking. Throughout my 3.5 years in undergrad I immensely developed my social skills developing from a shy, uncomfortable, unconfident girl into an independent, articulate, confident, social butterfly. I would consider this one of my largest accomplishments of my college career. This development happened quickly and was wildly uncomfortable but has improved my life and opportunities in an immense way. Through this social development I also strived to continue to stay involved. On top of being a college volleyball player, I was a mentor in the Teammates program for 3 years, I was vice president of community service of the Business Honor Society, I held an on campus job working as the Operations Specialist at the Donald E. Young Center, I was an athletics tutor for over 15 courses, I was involved with the Special Olympics for 3 years and I was a youth basketball referee. Being involved with these programs helped me not only create a community around athletics, but also connect with the community of Spearfish. The people I met during my time at Black Hills State University are people who will forever hold a special place in my life. This is a huge reason I chose to remain at Black Hills State University while pursuing my graduate degree.

Master Program: I am currently pursuing a master degree in business administration from Black Hills State University. A combination of the amazing people and the accredited program drew me to continue my education at BHSU. I chose to pursue an MBA rather than enter the workforce post undergraduate graduation because I love learning and I love business. School has always been something I enjoy and the opportunity to be taught new concepts, processes and theories excites me. I enjoy learning different perspectives and seeing the world through various lenses. I believe the more educated I become the better person I become. I have not only been able to prepare myself for the workforce, but have been able to learn about myself, what I believe, and how I will chose to carry myself through my life. Through my last year of schooling I have discovered myself in a new light as a strong, independent person. I have full confidence in myself to succeed in all avenues of life. I know I have the tools needed to learn and develop any skills that would be needed to be successful in my career. This paired with my self starter, mentality gives me an edge because it allows me never to be held back by the problems like "I don't know how to do this." or "This is too hard for me. " I have never faced a task I cannot eventually figure out. The way problem solving itches my brain is something I desire to continue to explore by starting my own business. I am excited to explore my options moving forward which will allow me to problem solve, network, be challenged, and add value to a company.

Moving Forward: Moving into the next phase of my life I am excited about my future. I want to own a company that will give me the chance to continue to improve myself but also opportunity to use my well versed background to help improve other small business' companies. I am a strong believer in the power of timing and I know with hard work, tenacity and persistence I will move to create the business of my dreams!

Let's work together to help both our dreams come true!
